Knowing your Moon sign is more important than your Sun sign. Here’s why.

Hello Scorpio Season!

I always find this season so special as a Scorpio Moon.

In the Northern hemisphere, we are experiencing the thick of autumn in this fixed water sign. The trees are committing to dying and losing their leaves, alongside the sun setting earlier with that unique autumnal golden glow as the Earth tilts away from the sun. With spooky season among us, the colder weather sets the right mood for what’s known as the season of death. Celebrated in many cultures through Eagle’s Gate portal (when the Sun is at 15 degrees Scorpio aka midpoint of autumn), Dia de Los Muertos, Halloween and more.

For me personally in my chart, Scorpio is in my 5th house in whole sign, the house of romance, dating, creativity, authentic expression and dating and I recently came to realize ALL of my past relationships have started during Scorpio season, I mean… how much more literal can you get!

Recognizing the power of my moon sign during this season has made me realize that others might not know just HOW important the moon is in your chart.

For me, I believe knowing your Moon sign is more important than your Sun sign and here’s why…

If we take a bird’s eye view, we know that the moon is closer to Earth than the Sun. We can visibly see her changing phases, orientations, and craters in our clear night skies. This means we feel the energetic pull of the moon more significantly. In astrology, the moon represents our inner world, our emotions and our most internal selves. The sign your moon is in reflects who you are when no one is around. It’s the layer to you that very few people will ever see, if ever.

In my readings, I always ask “Do you know your moon sign?” and often people will be like “No, not really…” and my eyes start to twinkle with excitement as I share this information you can use on a daily basis.

If the Sun is your identity, personality and life force that your friends know you as, and your Ascendant is your motivation for life that is the first impression you leave on others, then the Moon is the most intimate part of you that is revealed to your intimate inner circle perhaps your partner, family or bestest friends or only to yourself.

Understanding the zodiac sign of your natal Moon is like getting to know your subconscious, what you need to operate on a daily basis. Whereas understanding your Sun sign tells you more overarching life themes in your identity.

Knowing your moon sign is so crucial to understand how you self-regulate. Everyone’s self-soothing strategy is different, and other planets/aspects in your unique birth chart (or human design!) may reveal a more detailed picture of what that means for you. Because the Moon represents your emotional identity—this subtle, non-physical layer of yourself—knowing how to speak to your Moon sign in its native language is essential for overall wellness, self-care, and emotional and nervous system regulation.

When you are having a crummy day, feeling lost or emotionally WHACK: use your moon sign on a daily basis to soothe your inner child… even if you don’t resonate with your moon sign... 👀

I actually didn’t initially resonate with being a Scorpio Moon

I always thought Scorpios were scary, and if you have met me I’m often described as warm, happy, bubbly and joyful. So it was weird seeing that Scorpio moon on my Co-star when I first found out (didn’t we all start on Co-star lol). But as I have come to learn more what it means to be a Scorpio Moon specifically (not a Scorpio Sun), that sign DEFINITELY calls me out more so than my Cancer Sun does.

For example, Scorpio is known for going deep. I am not a huge fan of superficial conversations, my distaste for small talk makes me want to learn your whole life story when I first meet you. And THAT I resonated with. The shadow side to Scorpio when it comes to my inner world (the part of me not that many people know), the intense obsessions, the grudges, the score-keeping… can’t say it’s not something I ruminate on in between loads of laundry.

Understanding that Moon in Scorpio is in its fall, meaning that my moon is in a sign it’s not comfortable in, resonated much more deeply because I found emotions difficult to pinpoint. I experimented with so many different ways to self-regulate until I leaned into a strategy that was in a Scorpio-style that actually felt safe to me.

For me, my self-soothing strategy looks like psycho-analyzing my life or others (one of my fave past times is breaking down the core wounds of people in reality TV). Having deep, thoughtful life talks with trusted friends. Journaling to pour my “fixed” feelings out and then putting the pieces together. Listening to psychology podcasts. Yoga Nidra and meditation to dive into a deeper layer of myself. Going on retreats. Participating in things that feel impactful & meaningful. And sometimes I have an intense obsession with something random, at the moment it’s Taylor Swift and the Eras Tour.

This is just to name a few, and I am still finding new self-regulating strategies to adapt with my evolving and transformative nature as a Scorpio Moon.
